Made a 5 hour roadtrip down from Wisconsin to see the museum today but they were closed. We called the day before and were reassured that they would be open this weekend. After waiting in the parking lot for an hour after they were suppose to be open we went to check with the locals and cashiers at Casey's gas station in town even said they figured theyd be open as well. Super disappointed that we traveled 5 hours to arrive at the hotel after midnight to get to the Dumont museum right when they opened and noone was around even though we were told by phone the day before theyd be open. Google search even says they would be open 10am-4pm.
The great disappointment for our family, and the reason for this review, comes from the owners customer service. We all have bad days and busy lives - I so understand. But several branches of our family have gone here at different times of day and different seasons of the year. The owner is grumpy and rude; he posts hours of operation and then turns the trains off hustling people out well before close. (Today we were asked to leave at 3 despite the fact that hours were posted until 4. This happened to other members of our family as well). His wife is very sweet, but his customer service skills need some help. Just be aware of all of this when you pay the ticket prices ($8/adult, $5/older kids, $3/younger kids).
The museum has a little bit of everything for about anyone and I didn't think the $8 was too bad to pay to see everything, there are several very rare tractors in there that have been so well restored they've been featured in magazines.
Amazing. A place to take the kids to see the biggest train set I've ever seen. It was neat to see the Oliver tractors and older cars. A must see!
I had a great time and the people running the place were very friendly for me.
This review is not a commentary on the museum itself. There are so many cool things for kids and adults to see and experience. The collection in this place is really very fun.
It's a great place to see tractors, train's and absolutely unbelievable Western memorabilia.
